White label beer: buy in or brew your own?

Everyone who has ever said "we should have our own beer" runs into the same question: do you put your name on an existing beer, or brew something that does not exist yet?

White label: existing beer, your label

With white label you choose from beers that are already brewed. You taste them first, you know exactly what you get, and the run can stay small. For a sports club, a wedding or a company anniversary this is almost always the sensible route.

Your own recipe: more fun, more expensive, slower

Your own brew sounds attractive and sometimes is, but it demands a larger order, several test brews and a longer lead time. Only do it once you are sure you can move the volume, for instance because you have your own tap or a fixed outlet.

Bottle or can

Cans are lighter, chill faster and are allowed at many festival grounds where glass is not. The print wraps all the way around, so you get more design space. A bottle reads as more premium and suits a gift box better.

What it costs

The unit price is driven by the beer itself, the packaging and the quantity. With white label the entry point is low enough to start with a single event. Ask for the price list with your target quantity and you will see what the volume breaks do.

Lead time

Allow 6 to 8 weeks for white label from a final design. Your own recipe takes longer, because test brews are added.
